Rhodium Plating & Electroplating in London, Ontario
Electroplating at Daniel A Jewellery is done on-site at our London, Ontario store — your jewellery never leaves the building. We refinish and recolour gold and silver pieces with fine layers of precious metal: bright white rhodium to restore that signature white-gold shine, plus warm yellow, rose, and dramatic black rhodium finishes. Every piece is cleaned, polished, and plated by a GIA Graduate Gemologist with 45 years at the bench.
Rhodium Plating: Restore the Bright White
White gold isn’t naturally bright white — it’s a soft greyish colour, and the mirror-white finish you see comes from a thin layer of rhodium, a rare metal in the platinum family, plated over the gold. With everyday wear that layer gradually thins and the warmer metal underneath starts to show, especially around the shank and prongs. Re-plating restores the original bright-white finish and adds a hard, tarnish-resistant surface. Most white-gold rings benefit from re-plating every 12 to 24 months, depending on wear.
Colours & Finishes We Offer
We plate in-store in a range of finishes: rhodium (bright white) for white-gold rings, settings and chains; black rhodium for a bold, modern or vintage look; yellow gold to warm up or recolour a piece; and rose gold for soft, contemporary pink tones. We also do selective two-tone work to highlight detail and contrast. If you’re not sure what will suit your piece, bring it in and we’ll show you the options.
What Electroplating Costs
Cost depends on the piece — its size, the finish you choose, and how much preparation, stone-checking or polishing it needs first. A simple ring re-plate is very different from a long chain or a detailed two-tone piece, so there’s no single flat rate. Bring your jewellery in and you’ll get an exact, no-obligation quote on the spot before any work begins. There is never a charge to have your piece assessed and quoted.
Why Have Plating Done by a GIA Gemologist
Plating is only as good as the preparation behind it. Because all of our work is done on-site, your jewellery is assessed, cleaned and plated in our own workshop and never mailed to a third party. As a GIA Graduate Gemologist, Daniel checks your stones and prongs before and after plating, protects fragile and heat-sensitive gemstones, and treats antique, delicate and heirloom pieces with the care they need. With 45 years of experience at Baseline and Wharncliffe since 2005, your jewellery is in the safest hands in London.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often does white gold need to be re-plated? Most white-gold rings benefit from rhodium re-plating every 12 to 24 months, depending on how often the piece is worn. Rings worn daily wear faster than pendants or earrings. We’ll tell you honestly whether your piece actually needs it.
Can you change the colour of my gold jewellery? Yes. We can plate yellow, rose, black rhodium or bright white rhodium over most gold and silver pieces to refresh or change the colour. Plating changes the surface colour; it doesn’t change the underlying metal, so we’ll explain what to expect before any work begins.
Is the plating done in-store? Yes. All electroplating is done on-site at our London, Ontario store by a GIA Graduate Gemologist — your jewellery never leaves the building and is never mailed to a third party.
